Services for Housing Authorities

VSI is aware of the growing issues facing housing authority officials. From aging housing stock to long waiting lists and limited Vouchers, VSI understands the issues and provides comprehensive market analysis that give housing authority and city officials a clear picture of the market. For example:

Property/Portfolio Assessment:

VSI can examine one property or all properties in a housing authority's portfolio to determine each property's current and long-term marketability. Demographic characteristics, other housing alternatives, and a thorough analysis of the property's location are used to provide recommendations, which may include: rehabilitation, conversion, or demolition.

Conversion

Due to varying reasons, housing authority officials may want to determine the viability of converting properties or units to conventional market-rate and/or mixed-income communities. VSI can provide an analysis of select properties and provide a conclusion for achievable rents by program types, absorption potential and long-term marketability.

Displacement

Housing authorities are often faced with closing old, obsolete housing. A displacement analysis can be completed to examine the housing market in an area to determine whether alternative housing exists for displaced residents.

Rent Evaluation

VSI can assist housing authorities in the development of methodologies to justify the cost of Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) reimbursable rent levels.

Property Viability Assessment:

When assessing a property, it is important to understand it from both a marketability standpoint as well as from a physical condition standpoint. VSI works with architectural and engineering firms to provide comprehensive assessments of properties.
